Job Description: Film Historian

Position: Film Historian
Department: Entertainment and Performing Arts > Film Production
Reports to: Film Production Manager

Job Summary:
The Film Historian will be responsible for conducting thorough research, analysis, and interpretation of films and their historical context. This role requires extensive knowledge of film history, including significant movements, genres, filmmakers, and influential works. The Film Historian will collaborate with the Film Production team to provide insights and recommendations that contribute to the creation and development of films.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive research on various aspects of film history, including but not limited to genres, periods, key filmmakers, influential works, and cultural impact.
2. Analyze and interpret films from historical, cultural, and artistic perspectives, providing critical insights and contextual understanding.
3. Establish and maintain an extensive database of film history, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and accessibility of information.
4. Collaborate with the Film Production team to provide historical expertise and guidance during the development, pre-production, production, and post-production stages of film projects.
5. Advise on the historical accuracy and authenticity of film narratives, settings, costumes, props, and overall production design.
6. Conduct presentations and educational sessions for the Film Production team and other relevant stakeholders to enhance their understanding of film history and its relevance to contemporary filmmaking.
7. Assist in the creation of film-related content, such as articles, reports, and publications, highlighting historical insights and analysis.
8. Stay updated with current trends and advancements in film history research, attending conferences, seminars, and workshops to enhance knowledge and expertise.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Film Studies, Film History, Arts, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
2. Proven experience as a Film Historian or a related position, with a strong background in film research and analysis.
3. In-depth knowledge of film history, including major movements, genres, filmmakers, and significant works from different periods.
4. Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret films from historical and cultural perspectives.
5. Strong research abilities, with the capacity to gather and evaluate information from diverse sources, including books, articles, archives, and digital platforms.
